Learn traditional Scottish dances

Edinburgh history private guided tour tag 2

2h

Discover the lively and joyful world of traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing in an immersive workshop that takes you back centuries. Since the 17th century, Scottish people have gathered for ceilidhs—social events filled with dancing, storytelling, and music. Now, you have the chance to experience this vibrant tradition for yourself in a beautiful, historic church hall in the heart of Edinburgh.

With the help of a professional dancer and a live local band, you’ll be guided through the steps of some of Scotland’s most iconic dances, including the exhilarating "Strip the Willow," the lively "Gay Gordons," and the fast-paced "Dashing White Sergeant." Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned dancer, you'll be swept into the rhythm of the music, surrounded by the energy and camaraderie of the ceilidh atmosphere.

Feel the pulse of live folk music, played by talented musicians on traditional instruments like the fiddle and accordion, as you move across the floor with fellow participants. Ceilidhs are about more than just dancing—they're a way to connect with others, share laughter, and embrace a sense of community. With easy-to-follow instructions and plenty of encouragement, you’ll quickly find yourself twirling, skipping, and clapping along in time.
